Germany: Weekend Guide

 What is happening in the Garrison?

  • Beating The Retreat. Once again families can enjoy the  music and fireworks I mobile bar. 19:30 gates open: Speeches, Bugle call, music Bugle call, fireworks at 22:00.


  • Thrift Shop Volunteers Needed - We are looking for some new volunteers to join the Thrift Shop team located in the Families NAAFI store. If you can spare any time on Thursday or Sunday afternoons (even if it's one shift a month), please get in touch.  The shop is open Thursday 13.30 to 17.30 and Sunday 13.30 to 15.30.
  • May Bank Holiday on Sunday and Monday  The Pentecost Celebrations take place this weekend exactly 50 days after Easter and the Public Holiday will be Monday.
  • Summer Holiday Activity Week  24th -28th Aug – Use the QR code to register €50 per child for the week.

Things to do in Germany 

  • Mausolinos Bouncy Castle Festival Daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Until 7th June. In the northern part of the Rietberg park. For children up to 14 years old. While bouncing fun is included in the regular admission price for the garden show park on weekdays, children pay additional €3 on the weekends.  Drive time 30 mins



  • Japan-Tag (Japan Day) Düsseldorf Date & Time: Saturday, 23rd May On the  Rheinuferpromenade & in the  City visit Europe’s largest Japanese cultural festival. The whole promenade hosts martial arts demonstrations, tea ceremonies, cosplay and authentic food stalls. The event concludes with a massive, spectacular Japanese fireworks show over the Rhine. Guttersloh Spring Fair  22nd – 25th May a long weekend with the funfair.  
All you expect from a German fair, Bratties, Bumper cars and big rides for all ages. The fair opens at 15.00 on the 22nd,weather permitting fireworks should happen around 9 – 10 pm. The Pfingstkirmes is a big event in the city each year. Drive time is about 35 mins.

Music Festival in Arminius Park Bad Lippspringe- Free music festival Sat and Sun to enjoy, just down the road from Sennelager. Numerous live bands will perform, a vibrant craft market will be open, plus a family meadow, a wine festival and beer tent.

Acts include Europe's best Roxette tribute band. The original lead singer of Genesis, Spice Girls tribute act and a Bob Marley cover band to wrap up the event. 

A whole weekend dedicated to the British isles, complete with music, stall holders with food and drink from the UK. All in the lovely setting of a German manor house. Drive time to the event is just over 60 mins.
