Weekend Plans: Escape the Rain

When the rain comes there are still some fantastic options for days out in our region. Here are four ticketed events you can enjoy right now. 

1. The Time Machine Trip: Historical Fair (Bochum) Drive time: 1 hr 35 min

• Forget flashing LED lights and loud pop music. This is about nostalgia.
• Why go? We love "authentic" experiences. You will find rides from 100 years ago, restored with love. It’s a gentle, magical way to spend the day that feels worlds away from a standard theme park.

2. The Need for Speed: F1 Exhibition (Oberhausen) Drive time: Just under 2 hrs

• See real race cars and try the Fastest Lap Simulator.
• Why go? You aren't just looking at cars; you’re sitting in a seat that mimics a real driver’s posture. It’s an adrenaline hit that the kids (and the "big kids") will talk about for weeks.

3. The Color Splash: Monet Immersive Art (Düsseldorf) Drive time: 1 hr 20 min

• Step inside a painting. Huge digital screens turn the walls into moving art.

4. The Mystery Walk: Witch Trial Exhibition (Bad Oeynhausen) Drive time: 1 hr 5 min

• Enjoy Real history at the Fairy Tale Museum.
