The MOD has today launched the Red Tape Challenge, inviting families to tell us about processes that are getting in the way of them enjoying their homes, so that we can work to change them.
This is just one of a series of new pledges setting out clear commitments to Service families on the quality of their homes, customer service, and ensuring their voices are heard.

Defence Secretary Wes Streeting has launched the Red Tape Challenge asking families to tell the MOD about procedures and processes that are getting in the way of them enjoying their homes, so that we can work to change them.
This is just one of a series of new pledges to be delivered by the new Defence Housing Service, setting out clear commitments to families on the quality of their homes, customer service, and ensuring their voices are heard.
Armed Forces Housing and Annington Homes session at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC)
As you may have seen DIO’s CE Mike Green gave evidence to the Public Accounts Committee on Thursday 10 September, which is examining the MOD’s historic deal with Annington Homes to buy back the Defence housing estate.
One of the most encouraging aspects of the session was the recognition given to the Annington buy-back. The Committee Chair noted that we secured a good deal on favourable terms for the taxpayer. The outcome reflects years of hard work by colleagues across defence and government.
We recognise that public scrutiny is an important part of delivering better outcomes for our Armed Forces and their families, and we welcomed the opportunity to discuss both the challenges we face and the progress we are making.
Electric Vehicle Charging Point (EVCP) Installation Guidance
We have seen an increase in requests from families living in SFA for Electric Vehicle Charging Points (EVCPs). Under current policy, EVCP installations will normally only be approved where a property has dedicated off-road parking within its boundary and charging can be undertaken safely without cables crossing shared spaces.
Families living in homes without a driveway, garage or suitable off-road parking space will not typically be eligible, due to the safety and liability risks associated with cables crossing footpaths, roads, communal areas or grassed spaces. Families in these properties are encouraged to use public charging infrastructure while longer-term EV charging solutions for the Defence estate continue to be developed.
