Significance of Sawane Sankranti. Sawane Sankranti, which falls in mid-July, holds similar significance to Makar Sankranti, with the key difference being the sun’s movement southwards from the north. In Nepal, it is traditionally observed by lighting wooden torches and beating the “Dhyagro” drum to ward off evil influences and seasonal illnesses. Rice pudding is the main offering of the day, symbolising prosperity and well-being.
