Meningitis is a rare but serious infection that develops quickly, so as always call 112 if someone becomes suddenly unwell, especially with symptoms such as fever, a dislike of bright lights, neck stiffness, or a rash that does not fade under pressure.
Following normal hygiene practices such as handwashing will help protect you.
A Meningitis B vaccine is available for infants; adolescents and adults can be vaccinated privately but this will not be refunded.
The UK clinic follows NHS England’s advice on vaccinations, which is being reviewed in light of the outbreak.
