We are blessed with some fantastic trails in our area of Germany. Though the weather may stay cold in the next week or so it should also stay dry.
The English language version of the Tutoburger wald website is a fantastic tool for finding hikes and days out in our part of Germany. Not far from us we have the low mountains of the Tutoburg forest and the Egge mountains.
If you wanted to get started on the local trails here are some routes for hiking.
PaderWanderung
Tönsberg
This route starting in Oerlinghausen is a 7 km loop which needs between 2 and 2.5 hours for competition it is marked as trail A5 on signs.
The start point is a 23 min Drive from Sennelager. Described as an Easy to medium trail the loops around Oerlinghausen on the Tönsberg ridge with a maximum elevation of just over 300m the views look great.
"The name Tönsberg derives from the former chapel on the ridge, dedicated to Saint Anthony , whose ruins are now known as the Hünenkapelle (Giant's Chapel). The Low German variations of Anthony, such as Tönnies or Tüns , reveal the name's connection to Töns . Saint Anthony (251–356) was an ascetic , monk, and patron saint of hermits". Wikipedia.
The trail is a mix of a trail path and harder surfaces. So it it possible to complete in the winter though keep an eye out in some of the sections which might become muddy with some rain.
