Brunssum: Sinterklaas arrivals 2025

The countdown has begun! On November 15th from 2-4pm, we'll welcome Sinterklaas back to Sittard!

This includes a parade through the city with fun performances along the way! They'll end at Kloosterplein, where kids can give Sinterklaas their wish lists or simply shake his hand! Kloosterplein will be a lively hub full of entertainment and treats.

Sinterklaas is a kind bishop; he wears red robes and a tall, pointed mitre on his head. He travels with his servant called Zwarte Piet (Black Peter). Sinterklaas travels by ship from Spain to the Netherlands each year. With him he brings his white horse and a huge sack full of gifts for the children. People flock to greet Sinterklaas as he arrives and there is a parade through the streets.

BELGIUM: Do you know the Belgian Snow Day Rules?

As we head into Winter, do you know your responsibilities under Belgian Law with regards to snow?

* Sledging or ice-skating on public roads is forbidden.

* As a tenant, you are responsible for clearing the paths and access to your home.

* When clearing snow, it should not be placed where it would block gutters or down pipes.

* When driving, all ice and snow must be removed from your windscreen as a motorist must have 100% visibility at all times.

* Whilst Winter Tyres are not mandatory, they are recommended in wintry conditions. A minimum profile depth of 1.6mm is mandatory with a profile depth of 4mm being recommended.

BELGIUM: IC3 St Nicholas Toy Appeal, seeking donations. Closes Wednesday 26th November 2025

IC3 are still collecting for the St Nicholas Toy Appeal.

The tradition of St Nicholas in Belgium suggests that on the eve of December 6th, St Nicholas rides on horseback across the rooftops, dropping gifts down the chimneys for children. It is commonly confused with Christmas but is an entirely separate custom.

If you would like to support this appeal by providing a gift for one of the 119 children they are collecting for, please contact IC3 on SHAPE.IC3@hotmail.com. 

They will be able to advise you of the age of child you are buying for and the rest is down to you. If you would rather make a monetary donation and leave the gift selection to someone else, this is also possible. IC3 will be happy to hear from you.

Standing 29 metres high with a wingspan of 31 metres, a full-sized steel sculpture of an Avro Lancaster bomber appears frozen in flight, heading home across the fields that once echoed with the roar of wartime engines.

This is 'On Freedom's Wings' – an extraordinary tribute to the 55,573 men of RAF Bomber Command who never returned from their missions over occupied Europe.

The Event: In support of Sgt Nathan Curtis’ Movember challenge, whereby he will be completing another physically and mentally demanding challenging in aid of changing the face of Men’s Health. 

For his 7th year he will be undertaking an unofficial world record, running 70 miles carrying 42kg of weight. The weight is significant as it is half of the average bodyweight of a UK male. 

This year’s challenge is called – ‘Share the Burden’. To encourage the beautiful art of communication.

BRITISH FORCES BRUNEI REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY SERVICE INSTRUCTION – 9 Nov 25

General

1. Introduction. Remembrance Sunday is held in the United Kingdom as a day to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth service men, women and civilians in the two World Wars and later conflicts. It is held on the second Sunday in November (the Sunday nearest to 11 November, Armistice Day, as the anniversary of the end of hostilities in World War I in 1918). All Service Persons (SPs) and families within British Forces Brunei (BFB) are encouraged to attend and participate in this commemoration. The purpose of this instruction is to provide direction to all those participating in the service.

2. Situation. BFB will conduct a service at main Guardroom at Tuker Lines on Remembrance Sunday, 9 Nov 2025. HQ BFB will coordinate all details for this event.

3. Aim. To commemorate Remembrance Sunday and show respect to all that made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the United Kingdom.

Dress.

Civilians are to be dressed in smart respectable attire.

Media. 

SPs and families are reminded not to publish pictures on Social Media (SM). Authority to publicise any form of media coverage from this event must be sought through the BFB Media Officer.

Conclusion.

Remembrance Day is the annual occasion where SPs come together to remember the sacrifice and loss of those who fought in both World Wars and all subsequent campaigns and Operations. The full support of all participating personnel is required, to ensure the BFB service of remembrance is conducted in a dignified manner, paying respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
